This particular piece was specially commissioned by Yunior Lopez, the esteemed Artistic Director and Conductor of the YAO Symphony Orchestra based in Las Vegas, specifically for their 2023 “Dias de los Muertos” Celebration. This programmatic work revolves around the iconic figure of La Catrina, who is depicted as a skeletal figure elegantly dressed in a gown, which may be adorned in vibrant, bright colors or, at times, an elegant black. La Catrina serves as a powerful symbol of the cycle of life and death, reminding us to cherish our own lives and to honor the memories of those who have come before us.
